SAB claims to show six comedies daily

SAB TV has found more reasons to smile. The channel which claims to be the only one in the world to screen six comedy shows daily, grew by 300 per cent since it was taken over by Sony.

According to SAB Business Head Anooj Kapoor, the channel achieved a 28 per cent growth in TRP and now has a sustained readership.

While he declined to give reasons for the failure of Maniben starring Smriti Irani, he confirmed that the channel was contemplating another series with her “because Smriti commands a loyal following.”

However, he refused to give details of the new series, saying the actress had not pitched for it yet.

He also said the channel at present had three hours of comedies which were repeated throughout the day.

Answering a question about screening feature films during the week-ends, he said the channel screened all kinds of films because there just weren’t enough comedies being made by the Hindi film industry. As far as new films were concerned, he cited budgetary constraints for showing classic old films.

He stressed that all comedies shown on SAB TV had a message. He also denied the charge that the satire Lapataganj had gone beyond the stories of Sharad Joshi.

Kapoor was speaking at a press meet to announce the launch of Mrs and Mr Sharma Allahabadwale. The show replaced the 325-episode series Jugni Chali Jallandhar.
